California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice works (CCIJ) to move beyond traditional legal services and supports innovative approaches towards liberation and empowerment of detained immigrants. They envision a world where everyone’s right to live a life free from fear is recognized, and strive to lift up the lived experiences of detained immigrants so that their rights and humanity can be respected. The immigration system is broken and rooted in racism and oppression, particularly the practice of detaining immigrants. CCIJ engages in strategic advocacy and supports initiatives and policies to protect the health and safety of immigrants in detention in the short term, that also represent concrete steps toward ending detention in the long term. California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice received $80,000 in funding for 2022 and 2023 under the Leadership Pathways (Fellowship) priority, and $40,000 in funding for 2024 under the Movement Lawyering priority.
