2025 Special Election: Prop 50
Prop 50
Defend democracy and fight for our shared humanity
Description
Prop 50 may be unconventional, but these are undeniably unconventional times. Recent actions by the federal government have shown a troubling erosion of democracy, with targeted attacks on immigrant communities and a broader weakening of our civil rights. From harsh ICE tactics to policies that undermine the rule of law, we are witnessing a concerted effort to strip away fundamental freedoms. Prop 50 is a necessary response to these injustices, helping restore balance and protect the values we hold dear. ChangeLawyers supports Prop 50 because it stands against this tide of discrimination and stands up for the rights of those most impacted.
What is Prop 50?
Proposition 50 would implement new, legislature-drawn congressional districts in California in response to partisan redistricting in other states (most notably Texas.). The changes will be temporary, lasting through the 2030 election cycle, at which point the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission will resume drawing congressional maps. Prop 50 also includes language supporting independent, non partisan redistricting commissions in all states.
