Isra Ahmad is a sitting commissioner on the California Redistricting Commission. She has no party preference, and has argued in favor of independent, transparent, citizen-led redistricting. 

And she supports Prop 50. 

“California has embraced equity and transparency while states like Texas entrench partisan advantage…Does taking the high road matter when your opponents are willing to play dirty?

Ahmad argues that support for Prop 50 is both a show of support for those impacted by the federal government, and also a wake up call to mandate independent redistricting commissions in all 50 states.

The belief that all gerrymandering is bad is a noble, principled stance. But at this moment, we have bigger problems than principled stances, argues California appellate attorney Chris Truax. 

“We need to remember what is at stake…there are people of goodwill, conservative and liberal, in red states and blue” opposed to the federal governments actions and power grabs. Prop 50 is a fight for all of those people, and the start of a national movement.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, in a in a 4-to-1 vote, passed a resolution that will allow the county to provide resources for those who have been affected by the raids.

Critically, the resolution gives officials the ability to impose eviction moratoriums and other protections for tenants who might have fallen behind on rent payments because of the raids.
