California ChangeLawyers is proud to launch the Next Gen Scholars Program, a reimagined investment for the future of California.

ChangeLawyers’ Next Gen Scholars Program exists to launch the careers of vigilant changemakers who harness their power for good in California.

Rooted in our mission to build a better justice system for all Californians, this pilot program identifies and supports the next generation of vigilant changemakers who will safeguard the humanity of all.

Beginning in 2026, ChangeLawyers will welcome a small cohort of Next Gen Scholars—5 to 10 first-year law students across California—who demonstrate a deep commitment to serving California communities, have overcome significant barriers, and seek to harness their power for good. This pilot program will span from 2026–2029.

Each Scholar will receive direct funding of $50,000, as well as leadership development programming throughout their law school journey and beyond.

Applications for the inaugural Next Gen cohort will open in late January 2026. Eligible applicants must have applied to an accredited California law school for Fall 2026, intend to practice law in California, demonstrate financial need, and submit a complete application. Ideal candidates will also show a strong record of commitment to their communities and a clear vision for advancing justice in our state.

We invite prospective applicants, partners, and supporters to continue monitoring our website for updates. On behalf of the ChangeLawyers team, thank you for your continued belief in our work. Together, we can build a better justice system for all Californians.
