Maxwell Bessard’s hometown roots in California’s Central Valley and undergraduate foundation at UC Berkeley set the foundation for his deep dedication to public service. In law school, he has worked to shed light on educational inequality. He has provided legal services to successfully defend the accused—including juveniles—facing harsh criminal sanctions, and has published original scholarship on an emerging area of constitutional law at the Northern District of California Judicial Conference. Before law school, Maxwell was an active fighter for some of the leading issue campaigns of his generation while serving on the executive board of a California-based student-run nonprofit organization advocating for the public interest. After graduating, he will serve as a law clerk in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He strives for excellence, and is motivated to begin his legal career in San Francisco with a keen eye towards leaving the door open for the next generation of changemakers to find their path forward. Maxwell is a 3L at Stanford Law School.
