Deaven L. Rector, a Los Angeles, California native, is a first-generation college graduate who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Morehouse College. In high school, Deaven created the Young Male Scholars initiative, which paired high school seniors with freshman students designated as “at risk” by the Los Angeles Unified School District. During his time at Morehouse College, Deaven became a part of the youngest Moot Court Team in the American Moot Court Association History. He also became a co-founder of Scholars and Friends, a nonprofit organization that volunteered and mentored students at underprivileged elementary schools in the city of Atlanta. Deaven served as the captain of his law school’s National Moot team and Vice-President of their Education Law Society. In his capacity as Vice-President, Deaven created the McKinley Middle School Volunteer initiative, where students mentor homeless and displaced students in the D.C. Area who are reading below the District’s standards. Deaven is a 3L at Howard University School of Law.
