Angelene Obedoza was born in Manila, Philippines and immigrated to the United States when she was just 5. From a young age, she was taught the value of hard work and perseverance, but is cognizant of the various opportunities made available to her that allowed her to be where she is now. As such, her motivation for entering the legal field stems from her desire to pay this forward and help others. Prior to law school, she worked as a management analyst at San Mateo County Superior Court, overseeing the mental competency process to ensure that mentally ill individuals are given the resources to get better, instead of cycling them through the criminal justice system’s revolving door. Ms. Obedoza has a firm belief that the law can be used as a tool for social justice and when used effectively, can be applied to advocate for the needs of our most vulnerable populations. Ultimately, she plans to use her legal education to be a source of support for her clients and ensure that the law is more accessible for everyone. Angelene is a 1L at UC Davis School of Law.
